Once in the streambed, hike back upstream to see the exit of this wonderful slot. Gallina Canyon Ranch …it is Amazing…!!! Posted 12 November - And wasn't Tom Thumb a fantastic raceway!

Ghosting allows those who follow us to feel as tho no one has ever been here before Nicoli Carr stares down into the narrow crux of Deadman Slot. Below is a Kelton Manzanares photo of me trying to keep my 64 year old bones out of the cold, muddy water. Our footprints are in the mud in this photo below Nicoli , stemming the potholes A Nate Bartnick Photo above. These canyons can be partially visited without ropes but the climb-out and around these drops are extremely steep, strenuous and dangerous.
Most of Deadman Canyon is slot that widens occasionally. The lower half is all alabaster. The upper half is steeper and predominately Entrada Sandstone. Perhaps because it faces south, Deadman Canyon seems quite desert-like for its high elevation. Descending Deadman Slot goes like this: Parking shown on the map below is near GPS: Even tho this upper end of Deadman Slot Canyon drops more than feet extremely steep, we found that descending it is a very safe, rope-less down-climb.
Both the far upper portion and the upper half of this main portion of Deadman Slot are mostly composed of Endrada Sandstone A butt-slide and a down-climb worked here for us. Anchors will be hard-to-find here.
The slot canyon walls rise to or more feet overhead and close-in quite narrow. Walk up this trib a short ways and scramble 30 feet up a steep dirt slope. Holding this same elevation, you are soon hiking the rim of Deadman Canyon. Once in the streambed, hike back upstream to see the exit of this wonderful slot. From this point on downstream, Deadman Slot will be alabaster instead of sandstone. Anchors are abundant and easy here. This technical slot can be circumvented on the opposite side of the canyon via a steep and crumbling route to a major east-side tributary which has two rope- less down-climbs.

It was definitely not the King or the Sovereign The main straightaway was incredible long, the main bank turn was very steep, and there was a long secondary straightaway. When slot car racing began its decline, this was the first track that Tom Thumb removed to start to make room for a line of crafts.
Does anyone remember this track at Tom Thumb, or did anyone see it elsewhere, or, best of all, does anyone have a picture of it, at Tom Thumb or elsewhere? St Charles, IL Tom Thumb is still in Evanston and the owners have talked about getting an HO track or something else, again. I went there kind of late in the day, but don't remember anything like that track; however, I also found an old article on the place in one of my hobby trade magazines - I'll try to find it for you Glen has "only" been there since I'm quite sure that the crafts department had already displaced the blue track by then, and the racing was mostly the birthday party scene.
May 30, Here is the fishing report for Kansas and Missouri lakes and reservoirs for the week of May 30, K Dock Marina reports: Bass — most are in post-spawn and a topwater bite has started, try spooks, poppers, or buzz baits. Medium crank baits, jigs, and small plastics in flooded brush in backs of coves are producing too; walleye — good to excellent on small to medium crankbaits in less than 10 feet of water. Also hitting spoons and night crawlers. Crappie — fair to good on live minnows and swimming minnow plastics, most fish are scattered down the banks and in coves around brush.
John Berry of Berry Bros. The hot spot has been Rim Shoals. There are caddis coming off. The hot flies were olive woolly buggers 8, 10 , Y2Ks 14, 12 , prince nymphs 14 , zebra midges black with silver wire and silver bead or red with silver wire and silver bead 16, 18 , pheasant tails 14 , ruby midges 18 , root beer midges 18 , pink and cerise San Juan worms 10 , and sowbugs Double fly nymph rigs have been very effective my current favorite is a red fox squirrel nymph 14 with a ruby midge 18 suspended below it.
Use weight to get your flies down. Fishing has been very good overall. There are a lot of Rainbows in the lake and they are bigger than normal. Spoons and spinners are working well, either throwing and reeling them in or trolling behind the boat. Trolling crank baits has been doing well with bigger fish.
The Berkley Pink PowerWorm is still a must for anyone struggling to catch fish. Fish it feet deep early in the morning, then move it deeper as the sun gets higher in the sky, around feet deep.
Use 2-pound line as tippet for more bites, but 4-pound is ok. Use bigger jigs when water is running more. The jig and float method with either a sculpin or ginger micro jig, on 2-pound tippet is catching good numbers of rainbows. A 16 to 18 weighted gray scud or a San Juan Worm or a Mega Worm should also work well, or try a Zebra Midge and a soft hackle if they are rising on midges. Wading below the dam, try the same flies.
