This was only the second decent buy-in live tournament i've played in, with the other being the UKIPT earlier in February. If i'm being honest I cannot remember a lot of Day 1 of the deepstack, but the important facts were that I managed to accumulate chips steadily throughout the day, never really falling dangerously below average stack, but never really ammasing a dominant stack either. I had managed to outplay opponents in certain spots, getting a few bluffs through as well as getting decent value from the standard weak live fields i've heard you get in these comps.
So I ended up getting through to Day 2 with a chip-count of if i remember correctly, with average stack around the 55k mark, with 44 left and 27 paid. I was sat in the bb with AJss, an interesting spot I thought. Roberto had previously shown on a couple of occasions he was willing to open light from early position, once pricing himself into calling a short-stack shove when he has raised UTG with J6s. For this reason, I had assumed there was a good chance he would open light again.
However, this was a spot where my lack of experiance in live tournament play was exposed. He wasn't happy with the spot he was in, but made the call with AQ.
The other gentleman also flipped AQ, so I was in pretty terrible shape. At a stage where you are so close to final tabling in a tournament where deals are regularly done at the final table, so the difference beween 10th and 6th could be huge , it was important to maintain my healthy stack and build on it where possible.
The table I had been moved onto contained me, another young-ish guy who seemed to have a good game as well as 4 or 5 other opponents, all of whom were tight-bad, had almost 0 play in them and seemed to have little to no concept of how to play in the late stages of MTTs. For these reasons, me and the other young lad at the table were able to bully and basically own the table we were sat at, getting walks and bullying the bb by shoving with any 2 when it was folded round to me in the sb.
